CO/CREATE

Residency + Immersive Exhibition

Open to ten local artists working across digital media, CO/CREATE is a 4 month long residency at World Creation Studio that includes access to studio time, equipment, workshops, and multi-part introduction to immersive creation at the SAT dome. Throughout the residency, artists are encouraged to collaborate with one another and our immersive design team to contribute to the creation of a group exhibition that incorporates VR and immersive audio.

CO/CREATE challenges artists to experiment with new ways of conceptualizing and developing work through collaboration. The residency welcomes artists making their initial foray into working with VR and spatialized sound, as well as those experienced in audio-visual tools, softwares and workflows.

For its second edition, Post-Reality serves as a thematic catalyst, inviting artists to delve into the evolving nature of perception, existence, and social constructs in our digital age. This theme is intentionally open, providing artists with the freedom to respond in ways that span from political commentary to abstract explorations. We encourage artists to embrace this flexibility, allowing their unique perspectives to shape their interpretations of Post-Reality.

Program Structure

1/ Studio Explorations

March 2024

The beginning of the residency will take place at World Creation Studio, with an emphasis on experimentation and collaboration. The week allocates a concentrated period of time for participants to develop work in our studio production facilities, participate in workshops (see below), become familiar with the project pipeline, and establish collaborative workflows between artists. On-site technicians and facilitators will be available for all studio work periods.

2/ Workshops

March 2024 – May 2024

Participants are encouraged to attend one or more of the private workshops that will be offered during the residency, designed to be complementary to the skills and technology used for immersive design.

The workshops will serve as an introduction to the following:

  • 3D modeling with Blender
  • Introduction to creation with Unreal Engine
  • Techniques and tools for sound spatialization
  • Exploring web-based tools and platforms for disseminating immersive media
  • Immersive audio-visual creation at the Société des arts technologiques dome (workshop will take place at the SAT)

3/ Studio Access

March 2024 – June 2024

Artists work on independent and collaborative contributions to the exhibition, reserving studio time and equipment for project development. Studio access is available on weekends and by appointment as the schedule permits during the week. Artists are expected to use studio time to engage in activities related to the residency.

4/ Exhibition Design

May 2024 – June 2024

Artists work to integrate artworks and contributions to the immersive exhibition with support from the CO/CREATE team.

5/ Presentation

July 2024

Projects will be shown as part of an exhibition hosted at World Creation Studio.
