Discover the art of field recording and its creative potential as we explore capturing unique sounds and transforming them into dynamic percussive elements for electronic music. We’ll guide you through each step, from gathering audio to integrating it seamlessly into your productions.

 

Workshop Format

  • Two-part workshop including field recording outdoors and audio processing with Ableton Live
  • 10 spots available

Session 1

Recording & Listening

  • Introduction to recording:
    Set up and optimize your recording sessions.
  • Creative sound recording:
    Use any object in your surroundings, exploring notions such as acceleration and deceleration, distance and timbre.
  • Field recording:
    Learn to adapt and take advantage of any acoustic environment for your recordings.

Session 2

Techniques for Processing & Sampling Recordings

  • Audio editing and creative sampling:
    Develop a smooth workflow when selecting, cleaning and chopping your samples. Find rhythms and extract patterns from any audio clip.
  • Composition concepts:
    Learn to work on the arrangement, curate your loops and figure out the energy flow of your track.
  • Audio processing and mixing:
    Explore the different possibilities of your sound through time effects, warp, tuning, dynamics and panning. Prepare your track for mastering.

Workshop Requirements:

  • Sessions 1 – Headphones and any portable recording device with a microphone and storage unit (hard disk, ssd, usb, sd card). We will have available recording devices for those who need.
  • Session 2 – Laptop, Ableton Live, headphones. We will have available computers with Ableton for those who need.

Mexico-born, Montreal-based, sound artist, music producer — known as con secuencias — and sound technician. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electroacoustic composition and sound cration at Université de Montréal. He currently works in art mediation, music production and as a sound system provider for the DIY music scene in Montreal. 

In his productions he blends and reimagines sounds from various backgrounds, mixing field recording and experimental sound processing with club sounds and pre-hispanic mesoamerican rhythms.  Conceiving hybrid rhythmic sequences referencing sounds like tribal, cumbia, dubstep, glitch and seeking to create new sonorities through technological mediation.

Rodolfo Rueda is a multidisciplinary artist developing his craft in music and photography. Borned in Lima, Peru and now based in Montreal, Canada; Rodolfo graduated from the Jazz performance program at McGill University.

He currently releases music under the alias CIBER1A where he experiments with electronic music, free improv, and afro peruvian rhythms. At 26 years old, Rodolfo is currently working as a photographer, composer/sound designer and session bass player. He likes to take chances in his art in order to discover new passions and talents.
