Live at Donau Festival

final-bounce is a series dedicated to creative process, collective listening, and open exchange around sound, music, and performance.

Sessions begin with a moderated conversation between Malte Leander and an invited guest artist, offering a closer look at their practice, influences, current work, and approach to making.

The talk is followed by a communal listening session, where attendees are invited to share works in progress and receive feedback from the group and featured artist.

Marie Davidson makes electronic music that is visceral, confrontational and deeply human. Across more than a decade of recordings and performances, the Montreal artist has become known for her unmistakable vocal delivery, propulsive rhythms, haunting synth lines and sharply delivered observations on contemporary life.

Moving between introspection and satire, her lyrics address club culture, workaholism, womanhood, digital alienation and the pressures of modern society. Her broad catalogue includes work released under her own name and as one half of Essaie pas, through labels such as DEEWEE, Ninja Tune, Cititrax and DFA Records.

Her 2025 album, City of Clowns, examines surveillance capitalism and the growing influence of Big Tech. It was shortlisted for the 2025 Polaris Music Prize, following the 2019 shortlisting of Working Class Woman. In 2020, the Soulwax remix of her track “Work It” received a Grammy nomination.

A widely travelled performer and DJ, Davidson has received international recognition from outlets including The Guardian, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Libération, Le Devoir, La Presse, The Fader, NME and The Quietus.

After the talk, we move into our communal listening session, where participants are invited to play works in progress for open feedback. Producers are encouraged to bring an audio file on a device that can connect to the mixer through an AUX input, whether it’s a draft you’re stuck on or a piece you’ve been shaping recently. This part of the session is designed for attentive listening and supportive exchange, creating a space to share unfinished work, offer constructive insights, and learn from one another’s creative and technical approaches. The aim is to cultivate a setting grounded in care, curiosity, and community among music-makers.

Guidelines

  • No limitations on music genres
  • For sharing music use the sign-up sheet at the door, the queue goes as first come, first served
  • Please bring a draft of no more than 5 minutes in duration
  • There’s a limit of 6 drafts being played during the feedback session, with the possibility of playing your music out loud in a more casual setting past this point
  • Friends and folks simply wanting to sit in and listen to the session are welcome to do so
